zero is not our target
its our culture.

Since its inception, SBX has operated with a Target Zero mindset—zero safety incidents—not as an aspirational goal, but as a cultural expectation. Safety at SBX is not measured against acceptable losses or minimum thresholds; it is embedded in how work is planned, staffed, and executed every day. This approach has shaped our decisions, our accountability in the field, and the standards we hold ourselves to on every project.
Target Zero is not a metric we chase—it is the way we work.

Strategic Safety

Strategic Safety is a deliberate, disciplined approach to protecting our personnel, our clients, and the environments where we work. SBX safety is not reactive or informal—it is planned, executed, and adapted.
Safety is embedded into how we plan our projects, prepare our personnel, and manage our work.

Project Planning

Project Planning

Safety begins before mobilization. Every SBX project starts with hazard identification, task sequencing, site-specific safety planning and pre- Job Safety Analysis (JSA) review. SBX project expectations are clearly defined before our personnel mobilize.

Each project is unique, so SBX tailors each Daily Report safety section to reflect site-specific conditions and requirements. These reports, including all safety documentation, are distributed to our client daily.

Project Planning

Train and Equip

Our personnel are trained, properly certified, and equipped for the work they perform. Ongoing OSHA, HAZWOPER, and task-specific training—combined with the right tools, PPE, and procedures—promotes preparedness to execute the work safely in demanding environments.

Execute, Monitor, Improve

SBX actively manages its safety in the field through supervision, inspections, observations, and open communication. Safety performance is reviewed and strengthened through our ongoing evaluation and operational learning.

Comprehensive Safety Management

Safety at SBX is not treated as a standalone program—it is embedded into how work is planned, executed, and supervised in the field.

Pre-Project Planning: What We Do

Site Specific Safety begins well before our crew mobilizes. SBX evaluates scope, site conditions, interfaces with ongoing operations, and potential hazards during the planning phase to identify and mitigate risks early. Site-specific safety plans, Job Safety Analyses, and coordination with owners and engineers establish clear expectations and allow work to proceed efficiently without compromising safety.

Job Safety Analysis (JSA)

Every meeting and form is a discussion— Tailgate Safety Meetings and JSA’s reinforce expectations and address changing site conditions before work starts. Supervisors lead focused discussions on planned tasks, hazards, and controls to ensure every crew member understands the work and their role in performing it safely. This consistent communication promotes situational awareness and reinforces accountability throughout the day.

Training & Certification

SBX maintains trained personnel to meet the high demands of our environments. Required certifications, task-specific training, and ongoing safety education ensure personnel are qualified and prepared for the work they perform. Training is reinforced through field leadership and continuous engagement rather than treated as a one-time requirement.

Equipment Safety

Equipment safety is managed through inspection, maintenance, and proper use aligned with manufacturer requirements and site-specific conditions. Tools and equipment should be suitable for the task, inspected regularly, and operated by qualified personnel. This disciplined approach reduces mechanical risk and supports safe, efficient operations.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

PPE is selected based on task-specific hazards and enforced consistently across ALL projects. SBX establishes clear PPE requirements, proper use, and compliance in the field. PPE is treated as a critical control measure and an essential part of everyday work practices. SBX practice regular PPE reviews (on interval or sooner) to adapt to conditions and keep personnel engaged.

Incident Prevention & Response

SBX emphasizes prevention through planning, supervision, and open communication, while maintaining readiness to respond if an incident occurs. Clear reporting protocols, response actions, and leadership involvement promotes prompt and effective resolutions.

Serving Diverse Industries
Across the Southeast

OSHA Certifications

OSHA-required or proactive training and certifications for our industrial, utility, and environmental work environments, examples include:

  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry
  • Competent Person (Excavation, Trenching, Confined Space)
  • Fall Protection Awareness and Compliance
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

Specialized training

SBX crews receive task-specific and site-specific training tailored to the demands of our environment:

  • Confined Space Entry (Attendant, Entrant, Supervisor)
  • Hot Work Permitting and Fire Watch
  • Heavy Equipment Operation and Spotter Training
  • Rigging and Signal Person Training
  • Substation and Utility Site Safety Orientation (ITS Certified)
  • Site-Specific and EPC Safety Plans

Environmental compliance

SBX incorporates environmental requirements directly into planning and field execution, including:

  • Hazardous Waste Operations (OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER)
  • 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher
  • Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC)
  • Erosion and Sediment Control
  • Environmental Permitting Awareness and Compliance

Situational Awareness

  • Hazard recognition in dynamic work environments
  • Awareness of changing site conditions, equipment movement, and active operations
  • Identification of task-specific and human-factor risks before work begins
  • Real-time decision-making and escalation of unsafe conditions
  • Reinforcement of Stop Work Authority
SAFETY DEMONSTRATED

SAFETY DEMONSTRATED THROUGH PERFORMANCE

Measured by real work, real conditions, and real outcomes.

“I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for SBX’s dedication to maintaining a safe work environment. With over 23,000 hours on-site, SBX removed more than 230,000 tons of material, off-site, utilizing more than 11,000 over-the-road haulers, without incident.

They have done an outstanding job managing operations. I am particularly grateful for their commitment to the Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) program, which is a vital component of our Safety System.

SBX Site Safety Supervision has been exemplary, addressing any questions or concerns promptly and instilling confidence in the team’s ability to work safely.

It has been a pleasure collaborating with SBX, and I look forward to the opportunity to work with them again in the future.”
